Exploration of Children’s Interests

Dinosaur Exploration:

This page explores the interests of the children in this program and how I use those interests to interact with the children and create activities. I started observing the children in their everyday play and noticed the things they enjoyed doing. For example, the children all love dinosaurs, so we decided to do a week on dinosaurs. This created curiosity with how dinosaurs lived on the earth before us. It allowed us to talk about fossils of dinosaurs and how they were dug up from the ground. This started the exploration of digging up “fossils” in the yard, children would bring their shovels and brushes to the dirt hills and start digging to find “fossils”.

Conversation between a child and myself:

Me: What are you digging up from the dirt?

Jasper: It’s fossils! (he put it up to show me)
